It's hard to put it concisely: this was an album I grew up with in "the scene" while playing in a band of my own. The musicians in this band are people I'd looked up to for years growing up (and as an adult musician as well).
Every time I hear this song it transports me.
Favorite track: I Can Be Her Man (Remastered).

Oh wow this sounds amazing! Like I'm hearing it for the first time but closer to the way it actually sounded to be in the room (I imagine). I am also hearing so much more my bloody valentine than I realized. Walking, Spinning is a revelation. I definitely never heard what all was going on in this song. Also a lot of Prayer Chain I never noticed before in Save Yourself. You guys did real good with this remaster. I'll be listening to it a lot. Maybe vinyl? Favorite track: I Can Be Her Man (Remastered).
seraphs in the ceiling
sages in the sand
holding hand
loose and grand
lucky strikes takes her hand
if i believe, i can be her man
seraphs in the ceiling
sages in the sand
holding hands
loose and grand
seraphs, sages
loose and grand
lucky strikes takes her hand
if i believe, i can be her man
i dream of you, every breath
i’ll try not to press
i know you saw me
i heard you say, “what a mess”
i’m stealin’ to be your one in a million
i know that when you dream
it’s not of me
i’m the serf, you’re the queen
but one day i’ll be king
yeah one day i’ll be king
i’m stealin’ to be your one in a million
i’m hopin’ to be your one in a million
you’re my one in a million
laid with cool
put my dreams in your wrist
and i’ll learn how to twist
so pull the coil tight
and bury the dream in the soil
one day, like the ancients
it’ll turn to oil
seam broken down
beats and twitches
left in stitches
it’s learned to toil
laid heavy with coil
one day, like the ancients
it’ll turn to oil
long live the king...laid with cool
see your dance, dear
see my faint tears
so long, so long
walking spinning backing free
spinning running over me
sing your trance, dear
stream my faint tears
so long
and you watched it, how it was
then you learned it, all the way down
you shine that crown
and get a blushing buzz
when the storm comes round
you’re making sure that you’re the first one down
off the sinking ship
you king clever whip
and the bullshit, how it crawls
when you fight it, you win because
you’re made of tin
you save yourself from rust
and when the storm comes round
you’re making sure that you’re the first one down
save your skin—you win
save yourself and watch you win
shine that crown
and watch you believe it
until we meet again…
"Know ye, that at the right of the Indies is an island named California, very close to that part of the terrestrial paradise... The island everywhere abounds with gold and precious stones, and upon it no other metal was found. In 1535, Cortes believed that he found 'California,' the rugged, pearl-rich island home of Calafia, the mythical Amazon queen."
Dedicated to those, who like Cortes, still search for Califia.

This album is so gorgeous it makes me cry. Also rhythmic inspiration for days...
Superficially it's '90s alternative' but with the drums and bass pushed up so far in the mix and the guitar playing more rhythmic patterns than melodic ones it's very Joy Division (if Joy Division were actually good). Archipelago Soundsystem stan account

The lyrics, vocals and music make me feel things. The sounds are evocative of a time gone by yet couldn't be more now. One of my favorite bands. amylynn11
